Dying in Corporate
May BlogI need to vent.
I feel like I'm stuck in this city.
I escaped home at the age of 17 and for a while I lived in different places, including my car.
The reason I'm mentioning this is because my birthday just passed on Monday and I feel like I'm sinking.
I've put so many hours into my job for the past 14.5 months and just received my predetermined raise notice.
It's $0.75, and yeah that's an acceptable raise probably 10-12 years ago, but the economy and times have changed. That's just a cost of living adjustment.
I wrote paragraphs and made a whole folder portfolio to prove myself and worked so many hours of overtime, worked our event and talked up customers for my sales team, created all of the posters for our office events, handled my team while both of my upper managers were absent, assisted with holidays, only would sleep and then work, took on Saturdays, took on another departments workload, took on projects that were just randomly dropped on my desk.
When people say that it isn't worth it, it isn't worth it, so don't do it.
I was pulled aside following a PTSD episode that I had and told that I don't display management qualities because my tone and behavior is not "professional" enough. That it is a lack of confidence issue.
One of my managers was out of office more than I was the entirety of my working there and he had the lengthiest list of negatives on my review.
I sent an email just stating that I told my management about material that a contractor was requesting from us 20 DAYS AGO, and they pulled me into a meeting stating that I need to watch my tone and that it was a verbal documented warning.
I've heard my upper manager make more racist and sexist comments and jokes than I can count on my fingers and toes.
How do you fight this? I don't even know where to begin or what to do. When I called my mother she sounded annoyed. When I tried texting her she said "well what did you expect?"
I don't have any adult guidance in this life and I've got this far by researching and asking people on my own, but I have no one to really ask about this.
Anyways, I'm not feeling very brilliant this past week, but if I've learned anything from experience, it has to get worse before it gets better.
Wish me luck on my quiet quitting adventure, and hopefully this pushes me to do something better in my life than hope that a job will solve all of my self worth issues.
Wish me luck on the job search too. Feel free to message or send a letter, and remember that you're never alone no matter how low you feel.
Make every day brilliant -M
